The Life of Sarah: a Code for Life

Teach us to number our days, so that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Ps 90:12

In the Psalm of Moses we see him ask G-d how to number the days of our lives. In doing so we acquire wisdom. This is exactly what we see in this week's parsha: Chayei Sarah.

It is the only place in the Bible that we see a woman's age recorded, and not only that, the verse breaks down Sarah's life into three sections: 100, 20, and 7.

And the life of Sarah was a hundred and seven and twenty years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

Gen 23:1

In the Torah, nothing is without a deeply significant reason. The sages teach us that it represent three periods in our lives: childhood, mature youth, and completed old age. Sarah took the beauty of childhood into her womanhood, and the innocence of a twenty-year-old young woman into her grave.

We get pockets of time with meaningful tasks and challenges G-d wants us to overcome. The goal is to achieve completeness in all of them - easier said than done. So if you are in a difficult and challenging place, don't wish it away, make sure you "complete" it. Even in difficult times, practice gratitude. Disconnect yourself from feeling tired and overwhelmed and by practicing consciousness, find those perfect moments and save them. They will assist you through the phase you are in and become assets of wisdom in future endeavors.

If you are in a good place, use it for leverage, to move yourself forward and upwards. And remember King Solomon's wise words, for good and difficult times alike: This too shall pass.

It is becoming clearer every day purely by looking at world events, that we are living on borrowed time right now. EVERY SINGLE MOMENT COUNTS. Don't waste them.

Time is a precious currency when it comes to spiritual matters and you need to attach it to meaningful actions.
